For the smoothest experience, we recommend setting up your iPad so it can be left running securely throughout meal service.
Use a Stable Stand
- Place the iPad on a fixed stand or desk.
- This makes it easier for crew to scan passes themselves.
- It also helps keep the device safe from damage.
- The Scanner app uses the front camera by default, so position the iPad with the screen (and front camera) facing the crew — they simply hold their wallet pass QR code up to the iPad. If you'd rather scan handheld with the back camera, there's a flip-camera button on the scan screen, and the app remembers your choice on that device.
Enable Guided Access
Guided Access locks the iPad to the ReelCount Scanner app so it can't be tampered with.
- On the iPad, go to Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access.
- Turn it on and set a passcode.
- When in the Scanner app, triple-click the home or side button to start Guided Access.
Stop the Screen from Sleeping
- Go to Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock and set it to Never (or use Guided Access's display settings).
- This keeps the scanner ready throughout service without anyone having to wake the iPad.
- Remember to plug the iPad into power for long sessions.
Keep Wi-Fi Connected
- The Scanner app requires a constant internet connection — every scan is verified with ReelCount in real time.
- Place the iPad somewhere with strong, stable Wi-Fi.
- Avoid areas with patchy coverage or interference.
Use Multiple iPads for Busy Sites
- You can run the Scanner app on more than one iPad using the same location code.
- This helps avoid queues at peak times.
- All devices stay in sync through the cloud.
Key Points
- A stable stand, screen-out, keeps the iPad accessible and secure — crew scan themselves on the front camera.
- Guided Access prevents accidental or intentional tampering.
- Set Auto-Lock to Never so the screen stays awake through service.
- A strong internet connection is essential.
- Multiple iPads can run side by side at the same site.
That's how to configure your iPad for reliable daily use with the ReelCount Scanner app.
